COMET next generation messaging consortium announced at 3GSM

The COMET consortium, of which HP is a founding member, was publicly announced in a press release at 3GSM World Congress on February 15.

"Mobile industry leaders today announced the launch of the COnverged MEssaging Technology (COMET) consortium to advance Next Generation Messaging. COMET will undertake the world's first large-scale research and development initiative into converged messaging architectures and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) technology to deliver a truly intuitive user experience across any device. The initiative will be carried out over two and a half years and has a total budget of over €7 million, jointly funded by the COMET partners and the European Commission (EC), which is contributing a €3.4 million research subsidy.

The LogicaCMG-led consortium includes, Colibria, HP, Movial, Software Quality Systems (SQS) and the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e). The initiative will bring together top scientists and engineers for pioneering research and product development in the telecoms industry. The EC subsidy is financed through the Sixth Research Framework Program in the area of Information Society Technologies.

HP OpenCall's IMS communication brings HP into the limelight

The rising momentum of HP OpenCall's extensive communication around IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) over recent months at tradeshows and events, most notably at 3GSM World Congress 2006, has pushed HP OpenCall to the forefront of the telecoms arena. An article that appeared in ITCommunications.com on March 8, entitled IMS Opens Doors for HP, Others to Tap All-Important Telecom Vertical announced:

"Hewlett-Packard isn't always the first name that comes to mind when you think of telecom equipment vendors... But with the ensuing onslaught of IMS-enabled services brought on by the IP Multimedia Subsystems standard, all that is about to change."

"...the telecom sector represents the largest vertical market for the entire company — quite a feat considering HP employs about 150,000 around the world."

HP's OpenCall Insight Days 2006 in Shanghai in January, provoked an article in Express Computer Online (India) on March 10, 2006. The article presents the focus of the event - the release of HP's new offerings to help telecom service providers launch next-generation mobile services.

"The event was dominated by discussions on the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture and the OpenCall Media Platform for telecom service providers. ... the company announced the setting up of a real-time multimedia service experience center in Shanghai, the third such center after those located in France and the US."

HP unveils Mobile Development Platform for Asia Pacific telecom providers

An article in Computerworld Singapore spotlights the unveiling of the HP OpenCall Media Platform Video for Asia Pacific operators and an HP IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Experience Center in Shanghai announced at the HP OpenCall Insight Days in January 2006. HP OpenCall Media Platform Video enables the rapid development of interactive multimedia services to drive penetration of cutting edge video services and allows operators to optimize technology asset usage by sharing resources among different applications.

The opening of a new HP IMS Experience Center in Shanghai, China is designed to help operators advance toward the next generation of mobile services, based on the IMS architecture.

Launch of HP OpenCall Media Platform based 3G pocket sports video

NGC Systems Sdn Bhd, a mobile application and broadband telephony developer, launches its Genico™ 3G Pocketsports at HP OpenCall Insight Days 2006 in Shanghai in January. Genico 3G Pocketsports offers service providers a new breed of 3G mobile sports video features like MatchTalk, LockerRoom, MyChoice and Web and WAP based portal, particularly attractive to sports fans eager for live and personalized updates via 3G.

Genico™ 3G Pocketsports has been developed on the HP OpenCall Media Platform Video platform. The HP OpenCall Media Platform Video facilitates the creation and deployment of cost-effective, multimedia services that incorporate video, voice, and data with rich options for application interfaces, media processing and signaling.

According to Laurent Valluy, Director Asia Pacific Japan Operations, HP OpenCall Software, "As an HP OpenCall Asia Pacific partner, NGC Systems has effectively leveraged the features of HP OpenCall Media Platform Video to develop and launch Genico™ 3G Pocketsports, the first sports video application in Asia capable of utilizing the HP OpenCall Media Platform Video."

HP hosts an ETSI workgroup on IMS benchmarking

HP hosted an ETSI workgroup at the HP IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Experience Center in Grenoble, France on January 26, 2006. The purpose of the workgroup is to create a standardized performance benchmark targeted at IMS and NGN nodes, nodes groups and applications. A further deliverable planned is a reference test suite, to be implemented in TTCN-3 language - a language already at the heart of HP OpenCall test strategy.

The workgroup has divided its work in three phases:

• Phase 1 (end 2006): core IMS (P/I/S-CSCF and HSS), control plane only
• Phase 2 (mid-2007): addition of Media Resource Function (MRF) and Application Server (AS), data plane (voice/video), additional reference applications
• Phase 3 (end 2007): additional applications, including IPTV

By actively supporting this effort and providing significant contributions, HP is demonstrating its experience in understanding the performance and reliability challenges of IMS-based solutions. This activity directly benefits HP OpenCall customers by ensuring that HP OpenCall products are validated following industry-endorsed techniques and processes.

HP helps telecom industry deliver new wave of mobile services

HP has announced new products and customer successes that highlight how it is enabling global telecom companies to create and deliver a new wave of mobile services. HP OpenCall's Open Source SIPp project in awards finals

HP OpenCall's Open Source SIPp project was one of the 10 finalists in the "VoIP" category for the first "2006 SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards." This award, organized by SourceForge.net web site is aimed at nominating "...those innovative, revolutionary or just plain useful Open Source projects that are shaping the technology landscape."

Sourceforge.net is the primary source of Open Source projects, hosting some 120,000 projects and counting 1,290,000 registered users.

SIPp is an Open Source/GPL test tool, coming from and sponsored by HP OpenCall. There have been some 32,000 SIPp downloads in two years both inside and outside HP. SIPp is used to test Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based platforms - including HP OpenCall products.

Announcing HP OpenCall Media Platform Video 1.0

Generally available beginning April 17, 2006, the HP OpenCall Media Platform Video product is an IP video media server that accelerates the creation and deployment of interactive access to content and peer-to-peer video services. The HP OpenCall Media Platform Video product enables service providers or application service providers (ASPs), to nimbly expand existing audio and voice services to include richer video offerings. The capability helps boost average revenue per user (ARPU) as well as customer loyalty.

HP OpenCall Media Platform getting started - entry development pack

The HP OpenCall Media Platform Getting Started is now available through the HP OpenCall developer portal at the Dev Resource Central page.

Getting Started brings you quickly up to speed on HP OpenCall Media Platform development with a step by step experience of the HP OpenCall Media Platform developer resources, including: high level technical overview, web based trainings, software development kits and tools, tutorials, code samples, testing tools and developer assistance evaluation.

As part of the HP OpenCall partner services curriculum, it reflects the HP OpenCall Entry Development pack which offers emerging partners a complimentary access to information, tools and services to ease the evaluation of the HP OpenCall Media Platform development environment.

Voice Application Developer Toolkit 3.1 available

A new version of the VoiceXML/CCXML developing tool on Eclipse is available through at HP OpenCall developer portal.

This version is fully integrated with HP OpenCall Media Platform Software Developer Kit (SDK) 3.1 and enables users to validate code according to different schemas: VoiceXML 2.0, CCXML 1.0 or HP OpenCall Media Platform's extended schemas.

HP OpenCall USP SIP SDK now available

The HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platform (USP) Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) 1.4 Software Developer Kit (SDK) is now available.

HP OpenCall USP SIP is an implementation of the IETF specification RFC 3261: Session Initiation Protocol, which defines a signaling protocol for creating, modifying and terminating sessions with one or more participants. These sessions include Internet telephone calls, multimedia distribution, and multimedia conferences.

The HP OpenCall SIP product is made up of a set of libraries providing:

• JSR32 JAIN(TM) SIP API (Specification revision 1.1)
• Call Handling and Transaction C/C++ APIs
• A SIP/SDP Parser C/C++ API

It also provides tools for configuring, monitoring and managing the HP OpenCall SIP stack.

HP OpenCall Media Platform SDK now available

The HP OpenCall Media Platform (OCMP) 3.1 Software Development Kit (SDK) is now available.

The HP OpenCall Media Platform allows rapid development and delivery of telephony services, ranging from simply playing an audio prompt to advanced services such as unified messaging and voice portals. Its Software Development Kit (HP OCMP SDK) is a powerful development tool for application developers who need to:

• Test services developed in VoiceXML, CCXML or Java Call Control API
• Port and deploy services onto the fully operational platform
• Evaluate the HP OpenCall Media Platform.

This HP OpenCall Media Platform SDK is the simulated environment of the complete Media Platform running on Windows.

Two new focus partners have recently joined the HP OpenCall partner program. Monaco Telematique (MCTel) brings the benefits of significant references in EMEA. It has also just closed a large deal to deliver an International SMS Center that will be deployed as an international hub to route SMS traffic. This solution is based on the HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platform (USP)-S 4,1-6.

MCTel will enrich OpenCall's solutions portfolio with multimedia messaging solutions based on HP OpenCall USP platforms including:

• Multimedia Message Service (MMS) Centers
• Premium Gateway to offer Premium services (SMS, MMS, Wap, I-Mode)

This month HP OpenCall also formalized its cooperation with Accuris, based in Ireland, when it officially joined the HP OpenCall partner program as focus partner for the signaling offering. Accuris has developed a large portfolio of applications including Managed Roaming solutions and a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) convergent gateway. HP OpenCall already has several joint references with Accuris across the globe.
