COMET next generation messaging consortium announced at 3GSM

The COMET consortium, of which HP is a founding member, was publicly announced in a press release at 3GSM World Congress on February 15. "Mobile industry leaders today announced the launch of the COnverged MEssaging Technology (COMET) consortium to advance Next Generation Messaging. COMET will undertake the world's first large-scale research and development initiative into converged messaging architectures and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) technology to deliver a truly intuitive user experience across any device. The initiative will be carried out over two and a half years and has a total budget of over €7 million, jointly funded by the COMET partners and the European Commission (EC), which is contributing a €3.4 million research subsidy. The LogicaCMG-led consortium includes, Colibria, HP, Movial, Software Quality Systems (SQS) and the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e). The initiative will bring together top scientists and engineers for pioneering research and product development in the telecoms industry. The EC subsidy is financed through the Sixth Research Framework Program in the area of Information Society Technologies. Jean-Rene Bouvier, Vice-President and General Manager, HP OpenCall Software said: "HP, through its OpenCall portfolio, is privileged to be a founding member of COMET, along with LogicaCMG and other partners. This research and development project is one of the key vehicles that will accelerate IMS-enabled messaging, collaboration and community services." HP OpenCall's IMS communication brings HP into the limelight

The rising momentum of HP OpenCall's extensive communication around IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) over recent months at tradeshows and events, most notably at 3GSM World Congress 2006, has pushed HP OpenCall to the forefront of the telecoms arena. An article that appeared in ITCommunications.com on March 8, entitled IMS Opens Doors for HP, Others to Tap All-Important Telecom Vertical announced: "Hewlett-Packard isn't always the first name that comes to mind when you think of telecom equipment vendors... But with the ensuing onslaught of IMS-enabled services brought on by the IP Multimedia Subsystems standard, all that is about to change." "...the telecom sector represents the largest vertical market for the entire company — quite a feat considering HP employs about 150,000 around the world." Read the ITCommunications.com article. HP's OpenCall Insight Days 2006 in Shanghai in January, provoked an article in Express Computer Online (India) on March 10, 2006. The article presents the focus of the event - the release of HP's new offerings to help telecom service providers launch next-generation mobile services. "The event was dominated by discussions on the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture and the OpenCall Media Platform for telecom service providers. ... the company announced the setting up of a real-time multimedia service experience center in Shanghai, the third such center after those located in France and the US." HP unveils Mobile Development Platform for Asia Pacific telecom providers

An article in Computerworld Singapore spotlights the unveiling of the HP OpenCall Media Platform Video for Asia Pacific operators and an HP IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Experience Center in Shanghai announced at the HP OpenCall Insight Days in January 2006. HP OpenCall Media Platform Video enables the rapid development of interactive multimedia services to drive penetration of cutting edge video services and allows operators to optimize technology asset usage by sharing resources among different applications. HP OpenCall's Open Source SIPp project in awards finals

HP OpenCall's Open Source SIPp project was one of the 10 finalists in the "VoIP" category for the first "2006 SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards." This award, organized by SourceForge.net web site is aimed at nominating "...those innovative, revolutionary or just plain useful Open Source projects that are shaping the technology landscape." Sourceforge.net is the primary source of Open Source projects, hosting some 120,000 projects and counting 1,290,000 registered users. SIPp is an Open Source/GPL test tool, coming from and sponsored by HP OpenCall. There have been some 32,000 SIPp downloads in two years both inside and outside HP. A new version of the VoiceXML/CCXML developing tool on Eclipse is available through at HP OpenCall developer portal. This version is fully integrated with HP OpenCall Media Platform Software Developer Kit (SDK) 3.1 and enables users to validate code according to different schemas: VoiceXML 2.0, CCXML 1.0 or HP OpenCall Media Platform's extended schemas.

HP OpenCall USP SIP SDK now available

The HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platform (USP) Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) 1.4 Software Developer Kit (SDK) is now available. HP OpenCall USP SIP is an implementation of the IETF specification RFC 3261: Session Initiation Protocol, which defines a signaling protocol for creating, modifying and terminating sessions with one or more participants. These sessions include Internet telephone calls, multimedia distribution, and multimedia conferences. The HP OpenCall SIP product is made up of a set of libraries providing: - JSR32 JAIN(TM) SIP API (Specification revision 1.1)
- Call Handling and Transaction C/C++ APIs
- A SIP/SDP Parser C/C++ API
It also provides tools for configuring, monitoring and managing the HP OpenCall SIP stack.

This month HP OpenCall also formalized its cooperation with Accuris, based in Ireland, when it officially joined the HP OpenCall partner program as focus partner for the signaling offering. HP OpenCall already has several joint references with Accuris across the globe.
