Dear Reader,

The challenge service providers face today in bringing to market new and compelling services can no longer be met though their legacy infrastructures. The resolution lies in the evolution to the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) which will enable operators to realize the vision of a subscriber-centric world with access independent services.

HP is uniquely positioned to help service providers make the transition to IMS through its strong roots and technical leadership in both IT and telecommunications cultures. HP's roadmap for the migration to IMS is the HP Service Delivery Platform (SDP) blueprint, delivering services across different network types and different technology generations and evolving the legacy network to a service-oriented architecture model.

HP OpenCall software portfolio is focused on enabling the most robust service delivery infrastructure. Working with a broad and deep portfolio of application partners, the HP OpenCall offerings are designed to deliver revenue generating services today and enable the smooth path to IMS as the market evolves and grows.

HP is also aware that the user experience for new IMS-based services will be just as essential to their success as creating and delivering them. Providing quick, easy and above all simple access to the new services will be critical to meeting service provider revenue objectives.

At the world's biggest mobile communications conference and exhibition, 3GSM World Congress 2006 in Barcelona, February 13-16 you can learn more about IMS and HP OpenCall solutions through the HP OpenCall demonstrations (HP Booth, Hall 8, Stand B020). Also don't miss the HP OpenCall presentation: The Foundation for IMS by Steve Dietch, HP OpenCall Business Unit Marketing Manager on Tuesday February 14, from 12pm to 1pm.

In this new worldwide edition of the HP OpenCall Newsletter, you will find how HP OpenCall innovates for customers' success, product and partner news, details of how to connect to HP OpenCall at upcoming events and rich resources to help you get to know HP OpenCall more intimately.

Yours sincerely,
HP OpenCall - Connecting people and services with radical simplicity.

HP unveils advanced telecom software for personalized, "blended" services in emerging networks

In a November 30 2005 press release, HP unveiled products that will help the world's telecommunications providers evolve to the all-digital networks that are needed to offer blended voice, data and multimedia services across wireless, wireline and broadband networks.

From the HP OpenCall portfolio HP introduced a powerful media server, the HP OpenCall Media Platform Media Resource Function (HP OCMP MRF) that provides a foundation for advanced multimedia and interactive services in emerging Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks.

The HP OpenCall Media Platform, already widely deployed, has now been expanded to incorporate the MRF capability in emerging IMS networks. Current and planned capabilities include audio and voice services (interactive voice response, voicemail, conferencing) as well as a wide range of multimedia, collaborative and interactive services such as video mail, video conferencing, participation TV and music sharing.

HP also announced with Movial and Ubiquity Software a new service called Mobile MusicSharing. An industry first, the service enables mobile users to join in a conference call, listen to their favourite music and talk about it at the same time - all in a secure session that protects digital copyrights. Underlying the seamless user experience is an integrated solution that includes HP OpenCall Media Platform, Movial's Connect application for IMS and Ubiquity Software's SIP Application Server and which are the foundations for a smooth IMS migration in the future.

MobileOne cuts through the complexity with the HP OpenCall Media Platform (OCMP)

A feature story from the fall/winter 2005 issue of communicationsSOLUTIONS describes how MobileOne (M1) was able to consolidate different Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems and speed next-generation voice services to market with the HP OpenCall Media Platform's call-bridging functionality. The solution runs on Linux running on HP ProLiant Servers DL380 and DL360 series.

Consult the .PDF version of communicationsSOLUTIONS.
Read the text copy of communicationsSOLUTIONS.

Read also the MobileOne success story (.PDF)* on the HP OpenCall website which describes in detail how HP was picked as the vendor of choice because its innovative solution was easily implemented and yet practical for future scalability. In essence, the key concept that won M1 over was that VoiceXML is a language mature enough for developing voice services. With VoiceXML, not only was the proposed solution able to achieve IVR consolidation, it further allowed the service provider to create new voice applications.

It discusses the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), which will enable operators to realize the vision of a subscriber-centric world with access independent services. And with IMS service providers will be able to enhance the communications experience, allowing the end user to integrate every kind of media - voice, video, data - using any network. Featured in this article is how HP can help service providers make the transition to IMS.

HP OpenCall software portfolio is focused on enabling the most robust service delivery infrastructure. Working with a broad and deep portfolio of application partners, the HP OpenCall offerings which support legacy and next generation environments, are designed to deliver revenue generating services today and enable the smooth path to IMS as the market evolves and grows.

HP's roadmap for the migration to IMS is the HP Service Delivery Platform (SDP) blueprint. Implementing an open, standards-based Service Delivery Platform evolves the legacy network to a service-oriented architecture model, with an integrated service creation and delivery environment featuring automated partner management functionalities and well-defined service interaction methodologies.
