Course description

The purpose of this course is to gain a thorough understanding of the technical basis of the HP OpenCall Converged Network Media Server (OCNMS), including platform hardware and software components, their administration and maintenance.

Upon course completion, participants will gain understanding of the overall platform and its components (hardware and software) as well as knowledge to configure, monitor, maintain and ensure trouble free operation of the HP OpenCall Converged Network Media Server platform.

Target audience

This course is intended for system or network administrators, software support or maintenance engineers who need to acquire administration and supervision skills on OCNMS.

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Validate the platform software and hardware components
  • Configure the media processing components
  • Configure and manage OC IN7 and ISUP components
  • Configure and manage SVI SLEE
  • Configure and manage multimedia services (application dependant)
  • Understand IP telephony components (optional)
  • Troubleshoot the platform

Course prerequisites

Mandatory:

  • HP Tru64 UNIX administration knowledge
  • Good level of English - the course is delivered in English

Recommended:

  • Knowledge of SS7 signaling networks
  • PSTN/PLMN voice networks
  • IP telephony networks (if option selected)

Course materials & methodology

Lectures are interspersed with hands-on exercises, with about a half of the course dedicated to practical sessions. These practical sessions include:

  • Platform hardware and software configuration
  • Media processing, SS7 signaling, SVI SLEE components configuration
  • Configure the OC IN7 / ISUP platform
  • Start and stop the OC IN7 / ISUP platform
  • Place ISUP calls between platforms
  • Configure and administrate SVI and multimedia services
  • Basic troubleshooting knowledge of the platform

Each participant will receive a print of the course slides as well as product documents.

Training schedule

HP offers this course on an "on-demand" basis. 3 to 4 weeks lead time is required for course preparation. Course contents can be adapted to customer requests. A typical schedule covers:

  • SS7 components management (OC IN7 and ISUP)

  • Platform monitoring
  • Monitoring and maintenance synthesis lab

Day 5 morning
  • Platform troubleshooting
  • IP telephony components (optional)

Trainers profile

Training will be led by an HP consultant with a background in telecommunications, networks and OCNMS, and with experience of installing, maintaining and supporting customer platforms.

Audience size

Classes are intended for a minimum of 5 students and a maximum of 8.

Course location

This course is delivered in HP Stockholm, Sweden. Sessions can also be organized in other HP facilities or on customer's premises (in which case the customer is responsible for the training logistics).
