Course description

Looking to expand your mastery of HP OpenCall Service Control SEP Platform? Look to HP's Service Control SEP (Service Execution Platform) Administration Training offering. Course benefit

Upon completion of this course, participants will understand the HP OpenCall SEP purpose, principles of operation and environment. Students will be able to:

  • Configure, start up and shut down the platform
  • Perform platform operation tasks, such as monitoring the platform status, housekeeping and basic troubleshooting
  • Carry out administration tasks such as system backup and restore, service installation

  • Support and maintenance engineers who need an operational understanding of the HP OpenCall SEP platform

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this training, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the HP OpenCall Service Control SEP product concepts, topology and architecture
  • Configure the platform through static and dynamic configuration
  • Start and stop OC SEP platform and check the platform to ensure it is correctly started/stopped
  • Monitor OC SEP platform thanks to the tools used for monitoring the platform, system and applications
  • Operate OC SEP platform , and more specifically
    • Operate the In Memory DataBase
    • Operate the services
    • Operate HA and switchover
  • Do housekeeping of the platform and operate Backup&Restore
  • Do a first level of troubleshooting and be able to used upgrade tools available in the platform
  • Optionally, according to the customer needs, configure and operate a PlugIn, IpPlugIn or SIP

Optionally, according to pre-requisites, participants could also learn:

  • How to install the platform on the network
  • How to configure and monitor the SS7 stack

Course prerequisites

Mandatory:

  • Familiarity with HP-UX
  • Familiarity with Intelligent Network (IN) concepts, including message sets (Camel, Win, CS2...)
  • Good level of English – the course is delivered in English

Course materials & methodology

At the beginning of the course, each participant will receive a copy of all overhead slides. One set of the HP OpenCall SEP user documentation will be available for participants' use during the course.

Lectures are interspersed with demonstrations and/or hands-on exercises, with about one-third of the course dedicated to practical sessions. These typically include:

  • Platform configuration
  • Platform start-up and shutdown
  • Monitoring of the platform using MIB Browser, using events
  • Service management
  • System maintenance
  • DataBase maintenance
  • Basic troubleshooting
  • Optionally, Plug-In management

  • Six to eight weeks lead time is required.

  • Configure the SS7 part of the platform
Half Day 5 (Optional)
  • Configure the network
  • Monitor the SS7 applications

Trainers profile

Training will be led by an HP senior consultant with a background in telecommunications, expertise in intelligent networks and SS7 protocol, and experience installing, maintaining and supporting HP OpenCall SC platforms at customer sites.

Audience size

A minimum of five students is required, and is limited to a maximum of eight students.

Course location

This course can be delivered both at a HP site (with HP-supplied facilities and equipment) or on the customer's premises (in which case the customer is responsible for training room setup, including PC video projector).
