Course description

Course benefit

Upon completion of this course, participants will understand the HP OpenCall SMP purpose, principles of operation and environment. Students will be able to:

  • Configure, start up and shut down the platform
  • Perform platform operation tasks, such as monitoring the platform status, housekeeping (disk space management), basic troubleshooting such as gathering diagnostic data in case of problems and recovering from a switchover
  • Carry out administration tasks such as platform backup and restore, auditing

  • Support and maintenance engineers who need an operational understanding of the HP OpenCall SMP platform

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this training, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the HP OpenCall Service Control SMP product concepts, topology and disk partitioning
  • Configure the SMP platform, and more specifically :
    • Configure High Availability, Oracle and SMP
    • Configure SEP in SMP
    • Configure user applications
  • Start and stop OC SMP platform and check the platform to ensure it is correctly started/stopped
  • Monitor OC SMP platform thanks to the tools used for monitoring the platform, system and applications
  • Operate OC SMP platform , and more specifically
    • Start and operate propagations
    • Run an audit and resynchronization tool
    • Manage the overload
    • Operate HA and switchover
  • Do housekeeping of the platform and operate Backup and Restore
  • Do a first level of troubleshooting :
    • Know a list of tasks to diagnose problems on the platform
    • Be able to use the tools for collecting information on the platform
  • Be able to upgrade and update the platform :
    • Install a patch and validate its installation
    • Know how to update global resources
    • Know how to update a schema

Course prerequisites

Mandatory:

  • HP OpenCall SEP Admistration training
  • Administrative knowledge of HP-UX
  • Familiarity with Intelligent Network (IN) concepts
  • Basic knowledge of Oracle and SQL
  • Familiarity with HP MC/Service Guard
  • Basic knowledge of File System Layout – VERITAS
  • Good level of English – the course is delivered in English

This course is not designed to provide training in Oracle, HP MC/ServiceGuard or HP-UX.

Course materials & methodology

At the beginning of the course, each participant will receive a copy of all overhead slides. One set of the HP OpenCall SMP user documentation will be available for participants' use during the course.

Lectures are interspersed with demonstrations and/or hands-on exercises, with about one-third of the course dedicated to practical sessions. These typically include:

  • Platform configuration
  • Oracle configuration
  • Platform start-up and shutdown
  • Monitor the platform
  • Operate propagations, HA commands
  • Run an audit and resynchronization

  • This course is offered on an on-demand basis.
  • Six to eight weeks lead time is required.

Trainers profile

Training will be led by an HP senior consultant with a background in telecommunications, expertise in intelligent networks, and experience installing, maintaining and supporting HP OpenCall SC platforms at customer sites.

Audience size

A minimum of five students is required, and is limited to a maximum of eight students.

Course location

This course can be delivered both at a HP site (with HP-supplied facilities and equipment) or on the customer's premises (in which case the customer is responsible for training room setup, including PC video projector).
