Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: - Configure the HP OpenCall SS7 platform and SS7 protocol stack
- Start up and shut down the platform
- Perform platform operation and administration tasks, such as monitoring the platform, and basic troubleshooting
Note that the training can be delivered for both Linux and HP-UX platforms.

Learning objectives

\Upon successful completion of this training, participants should be able to: - Configure the platform and the network, i.e. configure the OS environment, the signaling hardware, the signaling protocols, configure the network at each level of the stack
- Start and stop OC SS7 platform and check the platform to ensure it is correctly started/stopped
- Connect an application to the stack and validate the connection
- Monitor the platform, the network and the applications
- Maintain and upgrade the platform
- Do a first level of troubleshooting and be able to used upgrade tools available in the platform
Optionally, according to pre-requisites, participants could also get: - A presentation of M3UA routing
- A presentation of MC/Service Guard and how it is used in SS7 platforms

Course prerequisites

Mandatory: - Familiarity with HP-UX or Linux according to the OS used
- Familiarity with Intelligent Network (IN) concepts and SS7 protocol
- Good level of English the course is delivered in English
Recommended: - Knowledge about OpenCall products
- For customers using M3UA based stack, it is recommended to know about M3UA network. If not, a presentation module to M3UA based stack can optionally be presented
- Knowledge of MC/Service Guard. If not, a presentation module can optionally be presented

Course materials & methodology

At the beginning of the course, each participant will receive a copy of all overhead slides. One set of the HP OpenCall SS7 user documentation will be available for participants' use during the course. Lectures are interspersed with demonstrations and/or hands-on exercises, with about one-third of the course dedicated to practical sessions. These typically include: - Platform and network configuration and validation of the configuration
- Platform start-up and shutdown
- Connect an application to a stack
- Generate traffic
- User of the troubleshooting tools

Trainers profile

Training will be led by an HP senior consultant with a background in telecommunications, expertise in intelligent networks and SS7 protocol, and experience installing, maintaining and supporting HP OpenCall SS7 platforms at customer sites.

Audience size

A minimum of five students is required, and is limited to a maximum of eight students.
|
Course location
|
 |
This course can be delivered both at a HP site (with HP-supplied facilities and equipment) or on the customer's premises (in which case the customer is responsible for training room setup, including PC video projector).
