This course builds on the ANSI-41 HLR AC Fundamentals course (100584). It is assumed that the students have a basic understanding of the ANSI-41 Home Location Register (HLR) and Authentication Center (AC) network functional entities.

Course benefit

This course builds on the ANSI-41 HLR AC Fundamentals course (100584) and provides students a deeper understanding of the ANSI-41 Home Location Register (HLR) and Authentication Center (AC) functional entities. Students are introduced to advanced HLR/AC topics, including use of the customer documentation set and database spreadsheets, feature configuration methods, analysis of TCAP messages and their associated parameters, network entity addressing, advanced HLR features, Wireless Intelligent Network features, advanced authentication features, configuration of the Versatile Data Management subsystem and its associated features, and the use of several ancillary utility programs.

Target audience

The course is designed for network operations personnel, selected switch technicians, system administrators, software developers and installers, support analysts, and customer care personnel. Students are expected to have completed the Fundamentals course (100584) and have some experience with the HLR/AC.

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this training, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the subsystems of OpenCall HLR application
  • Use the customer documentation to research questions about the OpenCall HLR
  • Discuss the communication protocols employed by the HLR
  • Configure network entity point codes, SSNs, and Global Title addresses in the HLR database
  • List the various forms of the subscriber profile
  • Configure any feature of the OpenCall HLR by following the appropriate Feature Implementation Guide
  • Describe the HLR's role in the Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN)
  • Configure the HLR for WIN Prepay and other WIN services
  • Set up the AC for event logging
  • Safeguard subscriber authentication data using the Security Monitor subsystem
  • Set up the HLR to support Over-the-Air Parameter Administration
  • Use the Versatile Data Management screens to configure XLAT and GLAT-based features such as feature codes, forwarding number validation, subscriber routing, teleservice ID screening, and custom announcements
  • Operate utility programs such as FTN Validation and SCANDB

Trainers profile

Training will be led by a senior HP consultant with a background in telecommunications, networks and the HP OpenCall NonStop INS platform, and with experience in maintaining and supporting customer sites.

Audience size

Typically, 3-12 participants are present in each class: A minimum of 3 students will be required, and class size is limited to a maximum of 12.

Course location

This course can be delivered both at a Hewlett-Packard site (with HP-supplied facilities and equipment) or on demand at the customer's premises (in which case the customer is responsible for training room setup, including PC video projector, white board, functioning NonStop lab system, or firewall access to an external server).
