Course description

This course provides the student with an understanding of the functionalities of the Home Subscriber Server (HSS) network element in the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network. Students are introduced to the integrated solution for the production environment: the OpenCall Intelligent Network Server and the OpenCall Home Subscriber Server. Students gain an understanding of the HSS system architecture, HSS operations, Diameter messages and Attribute Value Pairs (AVPs) on the Cx and Sh interfaces, IMS user registration, location management, application server data storage and retrieval, and authentication methods.

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this training, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the purpose and organization of the IMS network
  • Discuss the role of the HSS in the IMS network
  • List the interfaces and protocols supported by the HSS
  • Understand how the GPRS/UMTS network interoperates with the IMS network to provide user services
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)
  • List the HSS subsystems and their functions
  • Name the files in the HSS database and their purposes
  • Understand the operations supported by the HSS regarding its Cx and Sh interfaces
  • Describe the messages processed by the HSS on the Cx and Sh interfaces and their associated AVPs
  • Understand how the HSS database is used to process Diameter messages
  • Provision the HSS database

Trainers profile

Training will be led by an HP senior consultant with a background in telecommunications, networks and the HP OpenCall NonStop applications and with experience in maintaining and supporting customer sites.

Audience size

Typically, 3-12 participants are present in each class: A minimum of 3 students will be required, and class size is limited to a maximum of 12.

Course location

This course can be delivered as scheduled at our Plano TX training facility or on demand at the customer's site.
